The cast of "Downton Abbey" is saying goodbye to American audiences, as the final season of the show is set to premiere next month on PBS. Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and Allen Leech all stopped by "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," where the late night host decided to do a little experiment with the British cast.
"I think one of the things that makes the show so alluring to us in the United States is just how plummy all your accents are," Colbert said. "So, I'd like to try an experiment right now, if you don't mind. Can you guys try and American accent for me?"
The trio of actors all agreed to take part of Colbert's experiment and were each handed a card with lines from a real scenes from the show on it. The results were less than elegant. Dockery's accent went very Valley Girl, while Leech had quite the southern drawl. Bonneville had the best accent of the three actors but proved that the show worked best with posh British accents.
"Downton Abbey" returns for its sixth and final season on Jan. 3 on PBS "Masterpiece."
