Willow Smith Drops Surprise Debut Album ‘Ardipithecus’ (LISTEN)

After Willow Smith had teased the date of Dec. 11 on her Twitter account for the past week, the daughter of Will Smith finally dropped her debut album titled "Ardipithecus" Friday morning.

"Ardipithecus" is the young artist's first full-length album after she previously released a string of EPs that started when she released her 2011 smash hit "Whip My Hair," according to Billboard. Smith independently wrote and produced most of the 15 track album and released it through the record label Roc Nation. While there are no collaborations on the record with her brother Jaden Smith, her other brother Trey, who goes by AcE, produced a couple of song on "Ardipithecus."

"Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth. I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because, while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state, Smith told The Fader. "Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecus is my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds..."
