Critics' Choice Awards Nominations 2016: ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ And ‘Fargo’ Lead The Pack

The nominations for the 21st Annual Critics' Choice Awards were announced Monday morning, and this year there are a grand total of 51 categories. For the first time, the Critics' Choice Awards combined the film and television categories into a single show that will take place over a three-hour broadcast on A&E, according to Deadline.

"Mad Max: Fury Road" is continuing to have an impressive awards season. The film made quite the impression on critics this year and was nominated for a total 13 Critics Choice Awards, including best picture, Charlize Theron for both best actress and best actress in an action movie, Tom Hardy for best actor in an action movie and George Miller for best director.

"Carol," "The Martian" and "The Revenant" were hot on the trails of the summer blockbuster, and all managed to earn nine nominations each and were all nominated in the Best Picture category. Other best pictures nominees include "The Big Short," "Bridge of Spies," "Brooklyn," "Room," "Sicario" and Spotlight.

On the television front, FX's "Fargo" was the front-runner with a whopping eight nominations. The show was nominated for best limited series and multiple acting nominations for its stellar cast including Patrick Wilson, Kirsten Dunst, Nick Offerman, Jesse Plemons, Bokeem Woodbine, Cristin Milioti and Jean Smart.

ABC, HBO and FX were the most-nominated networks by the critics and had 14 apiece, followed by FOX with 12. After "Fargo," "The Leftovers" and "Transparent" came in second with six nominations each, while "The Wiz Live!" earned five and "Black-ish," "Mr. Robot" and "Penny Dreadful" all got four each, according to the Critics' Choice Awards website.

Comedian and "Silicon Valley" star T.J. Miller will host the show which will be broadcast live on A&E, Lifetime and LMN at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 17, according to USA Today.
