Michelle Dockery's fiancé John Dineen has passed away. The "Downton Abbey" actress, who turned 34 today, lost her fiancé Sunday, according to People. Dineen died with Dockery by his bedside at Marymount Hospital in Cork, Ireland, of a rare form of cancer. He was just 34 years old and had only been diagnosed earlier this year.
"The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received," said Dockery's rep in a statement, according to E! News. "But would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private."
Dineen, who was a senior director at London-based FTI Consulting, had apparently returned home to Ireland to receive treatment following pioneering treatment in Germany after his diagnosis, according to the Irish Independent. Dockery had been promoting "Downton Abbey" with her co-stars, but flew to Ireland from the United States to be with her fiancé and his family in his final hours.
The couple started dating in September 2013 after being introduced by her co-star Allen Leech. She rarely spoke about Dineen in interviews, as they kept their relationship very private, but in 2014, she did slip and admit that she was dating a "wonderful man from Ireland."
