An orphaned wild boar in Germany has reached celebrity status for deciding to give up the wild and live peacefully with a herd of cattle.
Dirk Reese, the farmer shepherding the cattle herd in his farm in Hamburg near the Danish border, noticed the boar and named him "Banana."
"He's fully integrated into the herd, which is fascinating," Reese said, according to Yahoo! News.
Like how Wilbur of "Charlotte's Web" became a known pig after befriending Charlotte the spider, Banana has gained the same popularity in the locality, thus making Reese confident that no hunter would even dare target the "not-so-wild" boar that has now been living in the open with the herd for more than two months now, according to the Examiner.
Usually, when people hear the word "boar," it spells bad news because of the invasive and destructive nature of the wild animal, which has been growing in population across the U.S. and Europe. However, Banana has proven that he means no harm and in fact has displayed a unique level of intelligence with his recognition of the need for companionship, which probably helped him decide to befriend Reese's herd.
"We don't know why this [boar] is alone, but clearly it left the forest and latched on to whomever it could find. Pigs are smart; this one knew what it was doing," said Lori Marino, executive director of the Kimmela Center for Animal Advocacy in Utah, according to National Geographic.
