The Houston Cougars have had an extremely impressive football season, as they finished the regular season with a 12-1 record and won the American Athletic Conference championship. The Cougars' lone loss on the season was to UConn, but besides that they were one of the best teams in all of college football. Because the team won the conference championship, first-year head coach Tom Herman will now be fitted for a custom grill by rapper Paul Wall, according to Sam Cooper of Yahoo! Sports.
Before the season began, Herman told his team that if they became champions of the AAC he would get a grill, and after the Cougars beat Temple 24-13 in the AAC championship game that goal was reached and now he is set to come through on the promise. Wall will come into the school's football offices this week to fit Herman for a diamond grill.
Houston is currently preparing for its bowl game against Florida State in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 31, but this will be a welcome distraction after one of the days of preparation. Wall attended college at the University of Houston and has been a vocal supporter of Herman and the program, saying Herman should win coach of the year.
Wall is best known for making grills for many celebrities and his appearance in Nelly's song "Grillz" is likely his biggest musical achievement, as it was nominated for a Grammy Award. Down in Texas, Wall is beloved not only his grills, but also many consider him a rap legend down, so the fact that Herman is getting a grill from him gives the coach major street cred.
Good for Herman for following through on his promise, and this gives us a good excuse to cue the music.
