New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese hasn't ruled out the possibility of dealing Hakeem Nicks before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. With the G-Men now at 2-6 and only two games behind for the NFC East lead, how willing is the team to part with the veteran?
With the trade deadline less than four hours away, Reese indicated the Giants are still open to trading Nicks.
"We keep all of our options open," Reese said on Tuesday, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. "Hakeem played well this last game, but we always keep all of our options open. You never say never until 4 o'clock. So we'll see what happens."
Nicks, in the final year of his contract, has been the subject of trade rumors ever since the Giants' horrible start to the season. His numbers have been poor this year, and he hasn't made a strong case for a big contract next season - he's caught 34 of the 68 passes thrown his way for 521 yards and no touchdowns. The 25-year-old has dropped catchable passes this season, although he's reportedly still hampered by finger injury.
Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com, however, doesn't think the Giants will move Nicks before the deadline.
"It always was a long shot that the New York Giants would give up on Nicks during the season. After their two-game winning streak, it would be stunning," Rosenthal wrote on Monday. "The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins will not go after Nicks, even after losing Brandon Gibson for the rest of the season."
Nicks' fate, at least for the remainder of the season, will be determined by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
