Given the massive success of "The Walking Dead," it's understandable why AMC doubled down on their zombie madness with this past summer's debut of "Fear The Walking Dead." Apart from a few questionable character decisions and some so-so pacing, "Fear The Walking Dead" succeeded in providing audiences with a new perspective on the zombie apocalypse by establishing its main characters right from the get-go.
Front and center is Cliff Curtis' Travis, who starts the series as a naïve and idealistic teacher who is unwilling to accept the harsh realities of this emerging threat. That is, until the finale when he savagely beats soldier Andrew Adams. Curtis recently spoke to Access Hollywood about that moment and revealed that it will carry over to season two.
"It's not just what he did to Adams, it's also what he did to someone else that he loved, and I think what it is is that he - momentarily - he broke," Curtis said. "He broke and I think what happened is that he was living by his creed that everybody deserved a second chance and he knew, in his mind, he had a conversation hich we don't see on screen where he talked it through with the guy and said, do we have an agreement? Like, I'm giving you a second chance here. I'm gonna let you go, and the guy came back and tried to kill. And it's like, he just lost it and I think it's just a culmination of holding back and holding back and holding back until he just can't take it anymore. Travis broke...momentarily. I don't think he's broken forever, but, understandably, I think I'd give him a pass on that one. The dude's throwing a gun around and threatening to kill people. You intervene. That's what Travis does."
To be clear, Travis was completely justified in his actions; the character he attacked was dangerous. But it was really the first time that Travis went to such an extreme and it represented his acceptance of the way things now worked in this crumbling society. Though he likely isn't going to become a cold blooded killer anytime soon, viewers will probably see a hardened version in season two who is more willing to do what is necessary to keep his family safe.
"Fear The Walking Dead" is expected to return in summer of 2016.
