During its quarterly earnings call Wednesday, EA put to rest any rumors that its upcoming game Titanfall would be coming to PlayStation 4. CFO Blake Jorgensen emphasized that Titanfall "is exclusive only for the lifetime of the title on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC."
Following the announcement, Respawn's Vince Zampella tweeted a response to the news, "Always MS exclusive at launch, great partner and focus is good for a startup. EA made a deal for the rest, we only found out recently =("
According to IGN, this means that Titanfall, as a debut game, will remain a Microsoft-platform exclusive for the foreseeable future. However, once Respawn is no longer a "startup" it may find a way to branch out into Sony's PlayStation 4 console.
"Of course we will [make PlayStation 4 games], just not the first Titanfall," the studio continued. This means that Titanfall 1 will not be coming to PlayStation 4 but the exclusivity of the product might not apply to sequels, so the series might find its way to PlayStation users eventually.
At the quarterly earnings call,
Jorgensen also assuaged worries that Respawn was rushing the title to market. He let it be known that the studio had always intended to release the game in March, April and May time frame.
"No, we're not doing that at all," COO Peter Moore said on the subject of Titanfall's alleged hurry. Titanfall will launch as an action-packed first person shooter that allows people to use technology to jump high and scale the map in a larger format than the average human jump can accommodate. The real meat of the game comes with the inclusion of Titan mechanical soldier suits that allow the user to change up the battlefield significantly. The game is currently set for a March 2014 release date.
