Florida Gators NEWS: Will Grier Transferring From University

Florida Gators quarterback Will Grier is transferring from the university and has already met with the team's staff, according to Gators reporter Scott Carter.

"Will came to me about exploring his options to transfer," Gators head coach Jim McElwain said, via the Gators' team website. "We will support him and help him in anyway we can. This has been very difficult on him and obviously he is looking for a fresh start."

Grier is currently serving a year-long suspension for testing positive for a banned substance. The former Gators quarterback had started five games for Florida this year and was an impact player under center for McElwain. Grier has thrown for 1,204 yards with 10 touchdowns to three interceptions in six games for the Gators in his freshman season.

Despite losing Grier for the season, the Gators managed to win the SEC East with a 10-3 record, and their only conference loss in the regular season came from the LSU Tigers. The Gators were able to bounce back with sophomore quarterback Treon Harris, but Florida's passing attack didn't look the same without Grier down the stretch of this year.

Harris has thrown for 1,530 yards as the Gators starting quarterback and has nine touchdowns to five interceptions. McElwain will look to have his team ready for the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day and will need his quarterback to play smart football against the Michigan Wolverine's stingy defense.

While McElwain and Harris are preparing for their huge match up on Jan. 1, Grier is likely determining where he will transfer to in 2016. Grier will likely have ton of interest from top programs despite his suspension, as he has proven he can play against the top defenses in the nation.
