Nintendo's "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" is heading to the Wii U virtual console this week. The game will be available for download at Nintendo's eShop on Thursday, the company's subsidiary in Europe announced.
The release will be the second time the 1996 game will have hit the Wii U platform. It was previously made available in 2008. Europe was excluded in that release, but the upcoming Dec. 24 eShop launch seems to be exclusive to the region.
In the Super Mario universe, the Super Mario RPG paved the way for Nintendo's Paper Mario and Mario Luigi series, according to Euro Gamer. The role-playing game involves several Mario characters within a familiar Mario narrative centered on rescuing Princess Toadstool. The initial goal is to battle Bowser to complete the mission. But a new enemy emerges, forcing Mario and Bowser to team up and fight as allies. "They'll journey across a wide variety of locations (a town of mining moles, a tropical forest, a thundering waterfall-just to name a few) and tackle a mix of obstacles requiring both expert timing and strategy to overcome," Nintendo stated on its website.
The Super Mario RPG will not be available in the U.S. American fans will have to wait for word whether this will change in the next few days. Unfortunately, it could be Nintendo's way of saying sorry to European gamers who were left out during the previous SNES release, Slash Gear noted.
The Super Mario RPG game will be able to be downloaded for €7.99.
