Warner Bros.: ‘Wonder Woman’ Losing Nicole Kidman?

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will serve as the true launching pad for Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe, but the movies that follow will be equally as important to the construction of a shared cinematic experience. Notably, 2017's "Wonder Woman" will be the first female-led superhero blockbuster for either DC or Marvel.

Gal Gadot is set to play the heroine (and will make her debut in "Dawn of Justice"), and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman was expected to join the cast in a crucial mystery role as well. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

Kidman previously appeared in the DC property "Batman Forever" in 1995 and would have been a welcomed addition to "Wonder Woman." But Variety's Justin Kroll reports that scheduling conflicts will prevent the Australian actress from lending her talents.

Yet when one door closes, another one opens. Kroll continues with the news that Robin Wright ("House of Cards," "Forrest Gump") is being eyed as Kidman's replacement.

The specifics of "Wonder Woman's" plot remain unknown, though there have been plenty of rumors suggesting what time period(s) it will cover and which other characters may cameo. Whispers have suggested that Kidman was to play Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman's mother. Kroll was quick to shut that rumor down for Wright.

In fact, it's no guarantee that Wright will be taking Kidman's role. Kroll believes she will be given a new character to play. Cinema Blend reports that Wright had already signed on to the film before Kidman was even being eyed by director Patty Jenkins.

We'll have to wait to find out just what exactly is going on with the film. Fortunately, we'll be introduced to Diana in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" on March 25, 2016, before her solo flick hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
