Johnny Depp Named Most Overpaid Actor In Hollywood

Johnny Depp has been named 2015's most overpaid actor in Hollywood, according to Forbes. While the actor may have previously struck box office gold with Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, due to flops like "Mortdecai" and "Transcedence," he took the title over from Adam Sandler, who was crowned most overpaid actor in 2014.

Depp has returned a measly $1.20 for every $1 he was paid on "Mortdecai" and "Transcendence." "Mortdecai" made only $47.3 million at the global box office while "Transcendence" earned just over $100 million worldwide, but barely managed to cover the costs that it took to make the film, according to The Guardian.

Depp's not-so-stellar year landed him on top of the list of overpaid actors that was dominated by established male leads that are household names. Coming in second place was Denzel Washington, who returned $6.50 for every $1 he earned from his recent films. In third place was Will Ferrell, who brought in $6.80 for every $1 paid for films like "Get Hard," "Anchorman 2" and "The Campaign."

Luckily for Depp, he has two promising sequels on the horizon, including "Alice Through the Looking Glass" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," according to Variety.

The rundown complied from Forbes was compiled by looking at the actors previous three films before June 2015 and did not include animated films, movies where the actor appeared in an insignificant role, or movies that were released on fewer than 2,000 screens.
