Actor Brooke McCarter, best known for his role in the 1987 cult classic vampire film "The Lost Boys," has died at 52 years old. His family confirmed his death via a statement posted to his Facebook page.
McCarter passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22 from the rare genetic liver condition alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT), according to the Facebook post.
"Brooke was our loving son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend," the statement read. "Funeral arrangements are still being finalized. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
McCarter started out his career as a model and landed a contract with the Ford modeling agency shortly after college, according to the biography on his website. He trained with acting coach Stella Adler in New York City, then relocated to Los Angeles. He earned his first acting credit in the 1986 skateboard film "Thrashin'," then appeared in a 1987 episode of "The Twilight Zone" before starring in "The Lost Boys" the same year.
He went on to pursue a career in telecommunications and returned to film in 2009 with a role in cult horror director Herschell Gordon Lewis' "The Uh-oh Show," according to IMDB. A director's cut version of McCarter's 2011 film "Emerging Past" is currently in post-production.
Corey Feldman, '80s film star who worked with McCarter on "The Lost Boys," shared the news of his former co-star's passing on Twitter.
"Very sad! In case U hadn't read this yet," Feldman wrote on Twitter and shared a link to a TMZ article about McCarter's passing. "R.I.P. Brooke!"
