Simon Cowell is not pleased with Zayn Malik's latest comments about his former band One Direction. Malik, in an interview for his Fader magazine cover story, called One Direction's music "generic as f--k."
"As much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, that's not music that I would listen to," Malik told the magazine. "I want to make music that I think is cool s--t."
"If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as f--k, so they could use that version," he continued. "Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn't fit us."
Cowell had a huge part in making Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Malik household names. The former "American Idol" judge helped form the band on Britain's "X Factor" and then signed them to his record label, according to People.
"It is a bit rude to the people who wrote all the hits with them," said Cowell, according to the Mirror. "And to the other band members. I mean, they all wrote a lot of the stuff."
"I think once he has had a chance to reflect on everything, he will probably reconsider what he's said because it was a very, very democratic process in the band," continued Cowell.
Malik left One Direction in March and later singed with RCA Records as a solo artist. Since Malik's departure, Cowell insisted he does not think about it that much.
"As soon as he left, we sorted him out with a label who really were enthusiastic about him and then my loyalty was back with the boys," ended Cowell.
