Rapper King Louie was shot in the head on Wednesday during a shooting in the Ashburn area of Chicago's southwest side, according to his management team, The Chicago Sun Times reported.
Louie a.k.a. Louis Johnson Jr. was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center after being shot while he was seated in his vehicle at approximately 3:30 p.m. His condition is now stable, according to police. The rapper's management confirmed that Louie is recovering and is "awake and talking."
Louie is known for coining the term "Chi-Raq" and and has also been responsible for giving birth to the word "Drillinois," which plays off the trap hip-hop genre of "Drill," made popular by other Chicago rappers like Chief Keep and Lil Reese among others, according to Billboard.
Louie later released a track titled "F--k Spike Lee" on the same day the director's film, "Chi-Raq," hit theaters.
Two other people died and three people were wounded in separate shootings around the city. An investigation into the same is ongoing, according to NBC Chicago.
Chance the Rapper took to Twitter to wish Louie a speedy recovery. "I believe in the power of prayer and I believe my brother Louie gone be ok. Send prayers to him in his battle," he wrote.
