50 Cent filed a lawsuit against Rick Ross on Wednesday accusing him of rapping over his hit song "In Da Club" in order to advertise his own album, "Black Market," according to Billboard.
Ross remixed 50 Cent a.k.a. Curtis Jackson's 2003 hit and used the track in his "Renzel Remixes" mixtape which dropped a month ago. The legal papers were filed in a Connecticut court and the action was taken in order to protect 50 Cent's reputation, said his lawyers.
"50 Cent's most valuable asset is the name and reputation he has painstakingly built through his Grammy-winning music, acting and business endeavors," said Paul LiCalsi, partner and co-chair of the Entertainment and Media Litigation Group at Robins Kaplan LLP. "He chooses his projects carefully for the very purpose of protecting that name and reputation."
"Our complaint alleges that Rick Ross has taken these without permission to advertise his own album and violated 50 Cent's rights in the process, and we believe he should be held liable," LiCalsi added.
The lawsuit is seeking a minimum of $2 million in damages along with an order that prohibits the MGM boss from using any of 50 Cent's work in the future, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This isn't the first time the two rappers have locked horns. Five years ago, 50 was ordered to cough up $7 million after he shared a sex tape of Ross' former girlfriend and mother of his child during their rivalry.
Last month, 50 Cent and Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, dissed each other on Instagram after Ross said that the Queens rapper's son applied for an internship at MMG, according to Complex.
