Rob Zombie: New Movie '31' Receives NC-17 Rating

Rob Zombie, the metalhead-turned-horror film director, is struggling to secure an R rating for his upcoming slasher flick "31." The director took to Facebook to announce that after a second round of editing, his film still received an NC-17 rating from the Motion Picture Associate of America (MPAA).

"Well, after two tries through the MPAA our rating on 31 remains NC-17," Zombie wrote on his official Facebook page. "Maybe three is the charm to get an R rating. Why R you ask? Well, because your local theater will not show an NC-17. Even though you are a f--king adult... things much be censored for your enjoyment."

It's crunch-time for the 50-year-old filmmaker, since the movie is set for a Jan. 23 release, according to IMDb. The film is set in 1976, when a set of five carnies get kidnapped on Halloween morning and are held hostage in a remote location. They're forced to play a violent game called "31," where they fight for their lives for 12 hours against a group of maniac killers.

The current version of the film received the NC-17 rating because it contains "sadistic graphic violence, bizarre sexuality/nudity, pervasive disturbing images and some strong language," Blabbermouth reported. Horror filmmakers strive for the R rating because most movie theaters won't carry a film with a rating higher than R.
