Fantasy football leagues are coming to an end, but many owners are in the championship week or semifinals in their fantasy leagues. If you're down a running back or just need someone to fill the flex spot this week, New England Patriots' newly acquired running back Steven Jackson could be due for a big weekend against the New York Jets.
The Patriots promoted running back Joey Iosefa to their active roster prior to last weekend's game against the Tennessee Titans, and the rookie running back led the team with 14 carries for 51 yards. Patriots running back Brandon Bolden was expected to see a majority of the carries this past Sunday, but clearly head coach Bill Belichick is looking for a strong options for New England's ground game going into the playoffs.
Some believe that Jackson can contribute as early as Sunday, and quarterback Tom Brady said his first impression of Jackson is a professional, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. Jackson is in 12th season in the league and has rushed over a 1,000 yards every year but three seasons. Belichick knows the importance of a strong rushing attack come January, and it would not be surprising to see Jackson get a majority of carries this Sunday.
It's a tough matchup against the New York Jets second ranked rushing defense, but a powerful 6-foot-2, 240-pound running back could make his presence felt, especially near the goalline. The Patriots are currently trying to hold onto the top seed in the AFC playoff picture, and Jackson looks to be a viable option for fantasy owners at the flex spot or second running back position this week.
