Houston Texans RUMORS: Brian Hoyer Won't Play, Brandon Weeden To Start

Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer has not been cleared under the NFL's concussion protocol and reportedly will not play this Sunday against AFC South rival the Tennessee Titans, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Brandon Weeden will make his first start since joining the Texans and is coming of a huge performance in which he lead Houston to their first-ever win in Indianapolis. The Texans control their own destiny at 7-7 in the AFC South, and they currently sit as the fourth seed in the current NFL playoff picture. With two divisional opponents left on their schedule, and the Colts only sitting a game behind, head coach Bill O'Brien will look for the rest of his team to step up around Weeden on Sunday.

Weeden threw for 105 yards with a touchdown and had strong performance in relief for quarterback T.J. Yates who tore his ACL last Sunday. Weeden has struggled to stay consistent throughout his NFL careers and has a record of 5-19 as a starter in the league. The Texans quarterback will look to pick up his first win as a starter since 2012 and has a favorable matchup against the Titans' 15th ranked defense in terms of yard allowed per game.

The Texans have also brought in quarterback B.J. Daniels, who is going through a crash-course of the Texans' offensive playbook prior to Sunday's game. "Very serious guy, very business-like approach," said head coach Bill O'Brien, via the Texans' team website. "Right away he's come in here and gone right to work, and that's something that's impressed me right way in the first couple days."

Daniels is likely just an insurance policy for Weeden on Sunday, but given Weeden's sporadic play over the course of his career, it's not impossible to think that Daniels could be inserted in the game. Texans fans likely won't want to see that Sunday, though, as that will mean that they are playing from behind, and with only two games left in the season, Houston is desperately trying to hold onto that playoff spot.
