Say what you want about the Marvel Cinematic Universe's lack of quality villains or formulaic filmmaking, at least they tend to absolutely nail their casting choices. You really can't complain about the representation of any of the heroes to this point.
That trend continues when with Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, a picture perfect match to most fans. The casting has led to a plethora of spectacular fan art flooding the Internet and depicting the popular actor as the Sorcerer Supreme. But now we no longer have to rely on speculation as Entertainment Weekly has released the first official image of Cumberbatch in costume.
Check it out.
Granted, Doctor Strange's appearance hasn't changed much over the years. The hint of gray hair, the long flowing red cape, the blue vest. His look has remained fairly static, but Cumberbatch is still nailing it nonetheless.
Of course, fans should expect some minor modifications along the way. But all in all, "Doctor Strange" seems to have captured the essence of the traditional look without making it too cartoonish or unbelievable. That's a solid first step for a concept that is not the easiest sell at first glance.
