Fantasy football is an inexact science; you never know what's going to happen. That's why I can completely whiff on my Teddy Bridgewater breakout prediction (my bad) but nail my projection for Allen Robinson (you're welcome). The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver showed up in a big way this year, leading a surprisingly electric offense and giving fans hope for the future for the first time in years. Yes, quarterback Blake Bortles made strides in his second season and the duo of Allen Hurns and T.J. Yeldon chipped in quite a bit, but Robinson is the true star of this team in 2015.
So what does the future hold for the pass-catcher?
"Bortles found Allen Robinson for a 90-yard scoring play, the longest from scrimmage in the league this season, and it pushed the second-year product from Penn State to more than 1,000 yards for the season," ESPN Fantasy Football Insider Eric Karabell wrote. "That might not seem like a major achievement, but the Jaguars hadn't seen a wide receiver hit the mark in a decade, since Jimmy Smith in 2005. Robinson continues to cement his role as a top-five wide receiver in fantasy, and yes, since I can't find more than a few running backs to warrant a first-round placement next season - Todd Gurley, [Le'Veon] Bell, Adrian Peterson and that's probably it - it means Robinson is likely a top-10 overall guy. Don't mock a breakout performer whose 14 touchdowns are tied for the NFL lead, but also averages 16.5 yards per reception, a figure just outside the top 10."
Robinson has also caught 75 passes for 1,292. As a second-round pick last year, Robinson showed solid promise with 48 catches for 548 yards and two scores. But no one could have quite expected a leap like this in Year 2. He is the No. 1 option on possibly the NFL's most exciting up-and-coming offense.
Given the struggles of several early round draft picks, it's feasible that Robinson could sneak into the first round as Karabell mentioned. C.J. Anderson, Jeremy Hill, DeMarco Murray and Eddie Lacy will likely all fall out of the top 10-12 picks. Robinson seems like a solid option considering the dearth of reliable running backs.
