Golden State Warriors: Stephen Curry Undergoing MRI, Could Rest A Few Games?

The Golden State Warriors are at it again as they have won five games in a row since suffering their only loss of the season. There is some concern in Golden State though as they are starting to deal with some injuries. Harrison Barnes is still not back from his ankle injury, Festus Ezeli is dealing with a toe injury, and the most worrisome of all is Stephen Curry's leg. Curry is undergoing an MRI on the left leg to see what the issue might be, according to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle.

For what it's worth the Warriors don't seem to think this injury for Curry is very serious as he has not yet been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. Curry suffered a calf strain in the Christmas Day game against the Cleveland Cavaliers but was able to return to that game and this injury is reportedly in the opposite leg. This MRI seems to be precautionary but the results should be available late Wednesday.

Curry did not practice on Tuesday and interim head coach Luke Walton has considered resting his best player for the next couple of games to ensure the injury doesn't get worse, according to Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group. For his part, Curry wants to play and has no plans of resting but it might be wise for him to take a couple of games off as the Warriors can afford it with their 29-1 record.

Curry is currently listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday and if he couldn't go it would leave the Warriors pretty thin as Ezeli, Barnes and Leandro Barbosa have already been ruled out. If it was solely up to Curry it sounds like he would play but ultimately the doctors, training staff and Walton have a say in this as well.

Curry has picked up where he left off last season as the reigning MVP is averaging 30.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game while making 45 percent of his threes. Curry is currently on pace to break the record for PER in a single season with his 32.1 and is the frontrunner once again for the MVP award. Right now the only thing that should concern Curry and the Warriors is long-term health so there is no reason he should play if there is any chance the injury could become serious.
