Times Square is losing one of its iconic stores. Toys 'R' Us closed its flagship store on Dec. 30, according to Business Insider. The store is located in New York City's Times Square. The store closed its doors at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, according to The New York Times, marking the end of a 14-year-old era for the company.
The 110,000 square foot, three-level store opened its doors for the first time in 2001.
The Times Square location was well known for its spectacular features, which included an indoor Ferris wheel, a 20-foot tyrannosaurus rex, a life-sized Barbie dollhouse and multiple homages to "Toy Story."
"We have not signed a lease agreement for a new flagship location at this time, but we are actively searching for another location in Manhattan where we can welcome shoppers from around the world," said Toys 'R' Us spokeswoman Alyssa Peera, according to CNN Money.
This is not the first iconic closure for the company. Toys 'R' Us plans to close the FAO Schwartz flagship store over the summer due to similar, rising rent costs.
Customers flooded the store on its final day, leaving next to nothing on the shelves by the time the doors closed for the last time.
