Pamela Anderson joined thousands of other runners for the ING New York City Marathon on Nov. 3. The 46-year-old "Baywatch" star ran 26.2 miles for the five-borough race to help raise money for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, a charity started by actor Sean Penn following the 2010 earthquake that devastated the country.
This was Anderson's first time running in a marathon and she crossed the finish line at an impressive 5 hours and 41 minutes. Her brother, Gerry Anderson, completed the race with her.
"So proud of my brother Gerry. Thanks G. For running next to me today - love you lots," Anderson tweeted.
The mom of two also shared a photo on Twitter of her recovery. Throughout the race the actress was seen holding her right leg but she powered through the discomfort so she could finish the race.
In a photo she captioned "Ouch!" Anderson is seen laying on a hotel bed with two large ice packs placed on her legs, her name tag from the race covering her face and a TV remote and book nearby.
An exhausted Anderson did tweet her thanks to New York City for allowing her to run. According to People magazine Anderson's main goal was to raise at least $76,000 for the charity. She also dedicated the race to her friend and surfer legend Montgomery "Buttons" Kaluhiokalani, who passed away at the age of 54 from cancer, the Daily Mail reports.
"Buttons spirit ran next to us/NYC Marathon. His funny laugh was in my head. It made me smile when it hurt," Anderson tweeted.
Anderson was only one of several celebrities among the 50,000 runners including actress Christy Turlington and reality star Bill Rancic.
"Feeling prepared thanks to my training from @TimexSports. Let's do this! Got my Timex Run Trainer 2.0 ready for race day," Rancic tweeted before the big day.
He ran to help raise money for his wife, Guiliana Rancic's charity, FabUWish, an organization that empowers breast and ovarian cancer survivors.
