Freezer Storage: Surprising Things People Put In Their Freezer (And They're Not Foods!)

One of the greatest modern-day inventions that helps keep yummy food from perishing fast can also work to extend the life and usefulness of other non-food items. If you've got some extra space in you freezer, then perhaps you can try some of these household hacks:

1) Flowers - Lab tests have proven that keeping flowers in the refrigerator at night can keep them fresher, much like fruits and vegetables, according to Apartment Therapy.

2) Batteries - This works specifically for NiMH and NiCd batteries, which will last longer when stored in the freezer, per Green Batteries. These should be placed in sealed bags so they remain dry. They must be at room temperature before actually using them.

3) Sweater - One way to stop a wool sweater from spooling or shredding is to put it in the freezer overnight. This helps lock the fibers in, according to Who What Wear.

4) Pillow cases and bedding - Throwing them inside the freezer - in a Ziploc bag of course - can kill dust mites, according to Shape. Do this before you have to do the laundry so that you're essentially halfway to cleaning them.

5) Colored Pencils - Many artists store their pencils in the freezer so that it it is easier to sharpen and won't break the lead, according to Art Is Fun. The same idea goes for eyeliner. Let it stay in the freezer for about five minutes before sharpening, according to PopSugar.

6) Eye cream and other moisturizing products - "Moisturizers, eye creams, treatment serums, and toners are all cosmetic products that might have a nice sensory feel or cooling effect if they are stored in the refrigerator," said cosmetic specialist Susan Raffy via Good Housekeeping.

7) Hard Drive - Your dying hard drive could still be revived long enough to take out important files. Freezing it for 12 hours could help, according to Life Hacker.
