A mother and her 16-year-old daughter were found dead in their Minford, Ohio, home by a family member in what has been described as an apparent double homicide. The victims, identified as Candace Newsome, 48, and her daughter Kristina Newsome, 16, were both discovered dead in their home around 8:45 a.m. on Jan. 4, Sheriff Marty Donini said, according to the Canada Journal.
A preliminary investigation determined that both victims were shot to death due to "obvious signs of trauma," but have been unable to determine when exactly the shooting took place, only establishing that it had taken place sometime in the past 12 hours, according to FOX's Clevland affiliate WJW-TV.
Deputies with the Scioto County Sherriff's Office is charge of the investigation and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation has been called in to assist. Autopsies are being performed on the bodies at the Montogomery County Coroner in an attempt to gain any information, according to CBS' West Virginia affiliate WOWK-TV.
