"Star Wars Episode 7" is approaching their reported start date for filming, Jan. 21, 2014, and director J.J. Abrams is meeting Hollywood up-and-comer Chiwetel Ejiofor is causing quite the stir.
The Times UK received the best potential scoop so far about the upcoming Disney film by accident. While waiting in the lobby for an interview with Abrams, Ejiofor was also waiting patiently to meet with the famous director.
"The British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, front-runner in this year's Oscar race, is sitting in the lobby of J. J. Abrams' office. If you're a sci-fi fan, this might be very big news indeed," the Times reports.
Ejiofor received rave reviews for his role in "12 Years A Slave," but this doesn't meant they were meeting for a part in "Star Wars Episode 7." The Times asked Abrams if Ejiofor was being considered for the part, but he did not comment on such casting news.
However, Abrams did open up about his love for the "Star Wars" franchise and his excitement to be a part of one of the most hyped films ever.
"I loved how Star Wars had that sense of a world far beyond the borders of what you can see and have been told. It's one of the things it did so brilliantly. If you watch the first movie, you don't actually know exactly what the Empire is trying to do. They're going to rule by fear - but you don't know what their end game is," Abrams told the Times.
"You don't know what Leia is princess of," Abrams added. "You don't yet understand who Jabba the Hutt is, even though there is a reference to him. You don't know that Vader is Luke's father, Leia is his sister - but the possibility is all there. The beauty of that movie was that it was an unfamiliar world, and yet you wanted to see it expand and to see where it went."
