Electronics manufacturer Parrot unveiled its latest drone Tuesday before an excited bevy of enthusiasts at CES 2016. The flying device boasts several innovative features that could make it one of the most interesting fliers this year.
The drone, which is dubbed simply as Disco, gave up the quadcopter design in favor of a fixed wing construction in order to guarantee that it zips through the sky at a higher top speed. It resembles industrial unmanned aerial devices such as eBee, which is used to monitor crops and wildlife, according to Gizmag. The drone is capable of reaching 50 mph and could take off the moment it leaves the owner's hands. It can stay airborne for 45 minutes.
Aside from its design and speed, Disco is also outfitted with advanced sensors that let it land smoothly and an autopilot system that eliminates the need for human intervention in several stages of its flight. Watch the device in action in the video below.
As is the case in other Parrot drones, Disco is operated using an iOS app that lets users control the device, as well as livestream and record video over Wi-Fi, Gizmodo reported.
There is no word yet regarding Disco's official launch, but Parrot says that it could hit the market later this year. The company did not announce the device's pricing, Apple Insider noted.
