India's first transgender music band, "6-Pack Band," has recently been launched in Mumbai, according to media reports. The group will release six songs and six music videos.
The band's introductory song and music video "Hum Hain Happy" - inspired by Pharrell Williams' hit "Happy" - took the Internet by storm. It accrued more than one million hits on YouTube within three days of it's release. Watch it here.
Playback singer and actor Sonu Nigam, who unveiled the band's first song, described the initiative as a "game changer."
"It (the band) is an outstanding initiative. I'm just honoured to be a part of it. This is not social service that we are doing. It is going to be a game-changer in the entertainment industry, whether it's in music-making or events," Nigam said, according to Indo Asian News Service (IANS).
"We are taking one step at a time. There are total six songs. I felt very happy singing with them. They were singing my songs all the time, they have a very good vibe. I really enjoyed their innocence and child-like energy," he told reporters during the launch, according to Times of India.
The music director and band's curator, Shameer Tandon, opened up about why they chose "Happy" to launch the band.
"They are always happy, despite the fact that people abhor and disrespect them. Happy, we hope, will be heard by everybody in the world," he said, according to NDTV.
