The Alabama Crimson Tide has won its fourth National Championship under head coach Nick Saban, as the team beat the Clemson Tigers with a late touchdown to win the game 45-40. The National Championship lived up to all the hype, as it was an exciting fast paced game that had no shortage of action on Monday evening.
Special teams were a major factor as the Crimson Tide had a huge onside kick and kickoff return for a touchdown in the second half. Alabama's offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin's offense exploded in the fourth quarter outscoring the Tigers 24-16. Saban is now 5-0 in National Championships and Alabama now claims 16 National Titles.
The Tigers put up a strong fight making it a competitive game throughout all four quarters, but the Crimson Tide were firing on all cylinders on Monday night. Alabama's offense rolled in the National Championship, as they moved both through the air and on the ground. Senior quarterback Jake Coker had arguably his best game on the season with 335 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Junior tight end O.J. Howard was huge factor in the Crimson Tide's win Monday, as he led the team with 208 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. Howard and Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry punished the Tigers for big plays all night. Henry rushed for 158 yards on 36 carries and pounded in three touchdowns including the go-ahead score.
The Tigers put up a fearless effort in the title game and Heisman finalist and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson played a phenomenal game. Watson had over 400 passing yards, and led the team with 73 rushing yards. The Tigers defense was clearly not the same without All-American cornerback Mackensie Alexander, and the Kiffin's offense exploited holes in the second half.
Alabama has proven time and time again that they are the perennial powerhouse in college football, and proved that they are the best team in the country again with a statement win over the Clemson Tigers.
