"The Hunger Games" franchise could be expanding to a theme park. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told analysts that the studio is considering opening a theme park inspired by the blockbuster movie franchise.
Feltheimer said that as they prepare to launch the sequel "Catching Fire," investors have approached the studio to see if they would consider opening a "Hunger Games" theme park.
"We have been approached in two different territories about potential theme park opportunities, which gives you a sense of the cultural impact of this franchise," he said. "We are excited about those opportunities and are pursuing them."
Feltheimer didn't say when the theme parks could be expected to open or if the studio was actually going to do it. The films are based on the best-selling novels by Suzanne Collins and "Catching Fire" is expected to open worldwide on Nov. 22.
The studio is currently filming the third and fourth installments in the franchise "Mockingjay: Part 1" and "Mockingjay: Part 2," which are expected to be released in November 2014 and November 2015 respectively.
With two weeks away from the release date of "Catching Fire" the studio and Subway restaurants released the first movie clip giving fans a glimpse at the relationships in the movie instead of the Arena. The minute-long clip, set to Christina Aguilera's "We Remain" shows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mallerk (Josh Hutcherson) having an emotional conversation.
Katniss is also seen sharing a kiss with her best friend Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth). Gale is trying to convince Katniss that she would be a good leader for the people even though she is hesitant to take on the role.
The second installment begins after Katniss and Peeta return to District 12 after winning the 74th game. Upon the arrival, Katniss learns that she is looked at as a leader because she went against the Capital and threw the game so that both she and Peeta could walk away as winners.
Katniss has good reason to be reluctant about all the attention. Her popularity isn't sitting well with President Snow who wants to eliminate her and Peeta. He sends the two of them back into the Arena for the Quarter Quell, a competition that takes place every 25 years and has both old and new tributes fighting to the death.
