Philadelphia Eagles To Name Doug Pederson Head Coach, Per Reports

There's been no official word yet because, well, there can't be. But according to Les Bowen of Philly.com, the Philadelphia Eagles have found their next head coach - Doug Pederson, currently of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are set to square off against the New England Patriots in an AFC divisional round playoff game, hence why the announcement can't yet be made.

But the Eagles released a statement on Thursday, shortly after Bowens' report, indicating that they had concluded their coaching search.

Interestingly, word broke a short time earlier that Ken Flajole, the former defensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams when Pat Shurmur was the head coach there, had turned down the same position at UTEP in order to accept a job with the Eagles. Since Philly had not yet announced a head coaching hire, that, of course, seemed odd.

It also seemed to point to Shurmur, the Philly offensive coordinator the past two seasons and one of the candidates for the head coaching gig, as the likely winner. But as Bowen noted, Flajole actually has a history with Pederson as well, having worked with the Chiefs OC when both men were in Green Bay.

So there you have it Eagles fans. Your next head coach will be Doug Pederson and his defensive coordinator may very well be Flajole. What say you?
