Celine Dion’s Husband René Angélil Died Of ‘Natural Causes,’ Coroner Says

Officials at the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner have ruled that Rene Angelil's death was due to natural causes a day after the passing of Celine Dion's husband and former manager.

"Mr. Angelil, 73, died of throat cancer at his home in Henderson while under the care of a physician," the Clark County coroner, John Fudenberg, said in a statement, according to Us Weekly. "We have determined Mr. Angelil's death was due to natural causes. No further investigation into his death is expected.

"Our condolences go out to Mr. Angelil's family and friends during this difficult time for them."

Angelil passed away at his home in Las Vegas on Thursday, only a day before his 74th birthday. "It is with deep sadness that we announce that René Angélil, aged 73, died this morning at his residence in Las Vegas after a long and courageous fight against cancer," Dion wrote in a Facebook post. "The family wishes to live the morning in privacy."

Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer in December 2013, and his wife took a year-long break from her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace to help care for her husband. A source close to the family told Us Weekly that Angélil was "feeling better lately." The death reportedly came as a "complete shock" because Angélil "was still handling her business and managing" Dion.

Following news of her husband's death, Dion released a statement explaining her personal decision to cancel her upcoming concerts at Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

"With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Celine performances Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday, Jan. 17 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace have been cancelled," the official statement on her Las Vegas residency website reads. "Celine earlier today announced the death of her husband Rene Angelil after a long fight with cancer. The couple had celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last month...All of us at AEG and at Caesars Palace have Celine and her children in our thoughts and prayers.

Angélil is survived by his three children with Dion, René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddie. He also has three adult children, Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre, from a previous relationship.
