Warner Bros. Lands Wonder Woman’s Mother

While everyone's attention is focused squarely on Zack Snyder's upcoming "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," we're taking a look ahead to the eventual "Wonder Woman" solo movie.

Today comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that Connie Nielsen ("Gladiator") has been cast as Wonder Woman's mother. The Danish actress will play Hippoyta, queen of the Amazons. It was rumored that Nicole Kidman was originally up for the role.

Gal Gadot will portray the titular Amazonian warrior Princess Diana/Wonder Woman in "Batman V Superman" before getting her own standalone film. Chris Pine will play her love interest Captain Steve Trevor in the World War I set film. The rest of the cast includes Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Ewen Bremner. It will be the first female-led blockbuster superhero film.

"Wonder Woman" will hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
