Don McLean, who is best known for his hit 1970s song "American Pie," has been arrested and charged with assault. The 70-year-old singer-songwriter was arrested on Monday morning around 2 a.m. for an alleged domestic violence assault, according to TMZ. The incident took place at his home in Camden, Maine.
Police say McLean was arrested without incident and was transported to Knox County Jail, according to WCSH 6. He posted bail for $10,000 and was released from custody a couple of hours later. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22.
McLean lives in Camden with his wife Patrisha McLean and their two children Jackie and Wyatt, according to th Daily Mail. His eight-minute-long hit song "American Pie" was released in 1971 and was No. 1 on the U.S. charts for four weeks in 1972. His last performance was at the Maine Lobster Festival in August.
