With "The Cleveland Show" cancelled and "American Dad" preparing to move to TBS instead of Fox next season it would seem that Fox is looking to downplay its relationship with Seth MacFarlane. However, it turns out nothing could be further from the truth as the network has announced it will re-up on MacFarlane shows with a new animated series called Bordertown.
MacFarlane, along with Family Guy producer Mark Hentemann will produce 13 episodes of the show set to debut during the 2014-2015 season. The comedy takes place in a fictional desert town in Texas and centers on the character Bud Buckwald, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Buckwald, a married father of three who serves as a border patrol agent but isn't adjusting well to the cultural changes around him, will be used to take a satirical look at America's cultural shifts in terms of racism and immigration. Bud's family will help accomplish this as well as his relationship with his next-door neighbor Ernesto Gonzales, a Mexican immigrant and father of four.
Hentemann created and penned the storyline and will executive produce the series alongside MacFarlane. Family Guy's Alex Carter and Dan Vebber (American Dad and Futurama) are aboard the 20th Century Fox Television comedy as co-exec producers. Apparently the series has been in development at Fox since 2009 when Fox ultimately picked up Bob's Burgers to series. Bob's Burgers was recently renewed for a fifth season.
MacFarlane recently received a full-season order for a live-action multicamera comedy called Dads. Fox will reportedly also be debuting a 13-episode show produced by MacFarlane called Cosmos: A Space-Time Odyssey.
Bordertown will be joining Sleepy Hollow, Bob's Burgers, Glee and The Simpsons in the fall of 2014-2015 season along with new shows like Mulaney, Hieroglyph, Gotham and an untitled comedy from 30 Rock's creators Tina Fey, Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock.
