Islamic State magazine Dabiq officially announced the death of the notorious British citizen turned jihadist, Jihadi John. Jihadi John, whose real name was Mohammed Emwazi, gained his reputation after appearing in an execution video of the Islamic State's hostages.
Dabiq, the official magazine of the Islamic State, paid tribute to Jihadi John. "On Thursday, the 29th of Muharram, 1437 (Nov. 12, 2015), Abū Muhārib finally achieved shahādah (martyrdom) for the cause of Allah, which he had sought for so long, as the car he was in was targeted in a strike by an unmanned drone in the city of Raqqah, destroying the car and killing him instantly," the magazine said, according to Reuters.
"It was through the mercy and blessing of Allah that Abu Muharib attained the gift of a sound 'aqidah' (creed) and correct manhaj (understanding) despite residing in one of the centres of kufr and despite the increased presence of deviants calling to the gates of Johanna," the article entitled "Among the Believers Are Men: Abu Muharib al-Muhajir" said, according to the Mirror UK.
In November, the United States military said that they were "reasonably certain" that Jihadi John has been killed, according to Army Col. Steve Warren, Fox News reported. The vehicle he was in was targeted by drones.
