Iconic rocker Iggy Pop announced his latest project, a collaboration with Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme, on Thursday night's episode of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." Pop and Homme then gave fans a taste of what to expect from their upcoming album with "Gardenia," the first single off of the upcoming album "Post Pop Depression."
Pop and Homme officially announced the release of the album and made their first public appearance as a duo on "The Late Show." When host Stephen Colbert asked Pop about how their collaboration came to be, the 68-year-old front man of the legendary punk band The Stooges said he first approached Homme via text from his flip phone.
"I just said, 'I thought maybe we could write something and record it,'" Pop explained to Colbert. "I didn't wanna put it in a box and neither did he."
They both explained that they wanted to keep the project a secret so together they headed out to the desert in Joshua Tree, Calif., where they lived together and recorded the material for "Post Pop Depression" over a two- or three-week span.
The pair then took the stage later in the show to perform the first single from the upcoming album, the bass-drenched, post-punk jam titled "Gardenia." As the Godfather of Punk, Pop commanded the stage, looking sharp in a black and white suit and gracing the song with his iconic deep baritone voice. Homme took his place on the left of Pop, rocking out on lead guitar.
"Post Pop Depression" is set for a March 18 release, according to Entertainment Weekly.
