Everything involving the new partnership with Marvel and Netflix seems to be happening very fast. First the news broke that Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist would be getting miniseries on the popular video streaming service. Following that, news broke that former "Cabin in the Woods" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" writer Drew Goddard was in talks to spearhead the Daredevil project. Now it has been confirmed that Melissa Rosenberg of "Dexter" and "Twilight" will be writing the Jessica Jones series.
Rosenberg was the writer attached to the Jessica Jones project "AKA Jessica Jones" on ABC a few years back. In fact, although the project never went to air, Rosenberg actually wrote a pilot script says Deadline.
Rosenberg's resume, according to IGN, includes writing for the first four seasons of Showtime's hit "Dexter" as well as all five "Twilight" movies. She will executive produce and write Jessica Jones. The project is being redeveloped by Netflix, which means that Rosenberg's previous script will probably have to be completely retooled or rewritten. This is especially true considering her ABC pilot was not written with the Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist crossover series leading up to the Defenders.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gayos for the comic book Alias created Jessica Jones as a superhero turned private eye who dealt with cases involving superheroes and villains.
"The graphic novel was so phenomenal that I really just wanted to bring that to the screen. It's so raw, and I love this character that is kind of a B-level superhero. She's not in one world or another, she's a borderline alcoholic. She's just a mess, but she's driven by a need to do something greater, you know? She's just this delicious character. Fun, you know? I'd love to write that character more, and I hope I get the opportunity. I've always said that I'd love to write the female Iron Man, this very f***ed-up female character that also wants to do some good. And that's who she is."
