Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige has been on a bit of a press tour in order to promote the upcoming installment in the Marvel cinematic universe "Thor: The Dark World." During that time, he has dropped several hints about the brand's future plans for the ever expanding cinematic universe.
The first came in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in which he shed some light on exactly what the role of actor James Spader would be when he plays the villain Ultron in the upcoming sequel to Joss Whedon's "The Avengers."
"We did not hire James Spader to do a robot voice," he said. "He's a very unique and incredibly exciting and unpredictable actor. And Ultron in the comics is a robot, but what's cool about him in the comics - and certainly how Jos Whedon is interpreting him for the movie - is that he is much more than just a robot. ... He's infused with much character."
Spader is expected to work as a performance-capture actor according to other hints from Feige when he said that Spader's face and body was being captured to create a whole performance.
Following the Spader rumors, Feige all-but confirmed that a Doctor Strange movie is in active development at Marvel Studios as well. IGN quizzed him on exactly what he foresaw a Doctor Strange movie being like and how it would fit into the Marvel cinematic universe.
"I don't want to say specifically, because that's a part of our development process as we start to put it together," he said. "But it's no secret that the supernatural angle, the angle of alternate and parallel dimensions, we have not done in any of the films, and is not only a big part of the Doctor Strange comics, but also a big part of the Marvel Universe that we haven't explored yet. So, I love the notion of tapping into all of that through Strange one day."
Finally, Feige said that casting for Hank Pym, better known as the hero Ant-Man, will be announced before the end of 2013. In addition, he mentioned that Edgar Wright's forthcoming film will be different from any other superhero movie and will lean less toward that genre as much as it will lean on the format of a heist movie. Details are scarce about the project so far but it seems like concrete news about Marvel's first Phase 3 project are just around the corner.
