'Maleficent' Trailer: Is Angelina Jolie's Sleeping Beauty Remake Worth All the Hype? (WATCH)

Angelina Jolie's upcoming flick "Maleficent" has released its first teaser trailer, showing off the new Disney villainess and her prey Princess Aurora, played by Elle Fanning.

The minute-long teaser clip shows a little girl running in the field, which is assumed to be Aurora since Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, Jolie's daughter, plays the younger version of the princess.

Maleficent hides in the shadows as the older Aurora acknowledges her presence and in the dark, enchanted woods.

"I know who you are," Aurora says. "You've been watching over me my whole life. I know you're there. Your shadow has been following me ever since I was small. Don't be afraid."

"I am not afraid," Maleficent responds.

"Then, come out," Aurora says.

"Then you'll be afraid," Maleficent retorts. Jolie's character then comes out from the shadows, revealing her giant horns and glowing, eerie eyes.

"Maleficent" marks Jolie's comeback to live-action films, as she has not starred in a movie since the animated flick "Kung Fu Panda 2," according to IMDB.

During Disney's D23 convention in California this past August, Jolie talked about the new sleeping beauty live-action remake. She joked with the crowd about her "scary" Maleficent costume and how kids would refuse to approach her.

"The strange thing was people with little kids would visit the set and I would think, 'I'm a Disney character!'" Jolie told the crowd.

"I'd go over to the children and say hi," Jolie continued. "And they would scream and run off. One little boy actually said Mommy, 'Please, tell the mean witch to please stop talking to me.'"

Jolie admitted she has always been a fan of the Disney villainess and was drawn to her dark, mysterious ways.

"Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her, know what she was like and who she was," Jolie said. "She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel, just wonderfully and deliciously cruel."

"Maleficent" is slated to hit theaters May 30, 2014.
