Hot Storylines:
- Super Bowl 50 will feature the top scoring offense in the NFL in the Carolina Panthers against the top-ranked defense in terms of yards allowed in the Denver Broncos.
- Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will be the oldest quarterback to start in a Super Bowl at 39 years old, passing former Broncos quarterback and current Denver vice president John Elway. Elway was 38 years old in Super Bowl XXXIII.
- Clete Blakeman is reportedly expected to be named the referee for Super Bowl 50. It will be Blakeman's first chance to officiate in the Super Bowl, and is most recently remembered for the do-over coin-flip that took place in the Packers and Cardinals divisional round playoff game this year.
- The Carolina Panthers dominated in the NFC Championship game winning 49-15, and quarterback Cam Newton is having his best season and will play in his first Super Bowl. The age difference between Manning and Newton has developed into a storyline, and Super Bowl 50 is becoming a matchup of old school vs. new school.
- Peyton Manning is looking for his second Super Bowl win in his Hall of Fame career, and could look to retire on top with a win in Super Bowl 50. The last time the Broncos won the Super Bowl, Elway retired following that season.
-The Panthers lost two key players on the defensive side of the ball in the NFC Championship game in Thomas Davis and Roman Harper. Harper injured his eye in the first half, and Davis injured his arm and was seen in a sling in the second half. Davis, Harper, and defensive end Jared Allen injuries will be a major topic leading up to Super Bowl 50, as each has made an impact for Carolina this year.
- Both Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak and Panthers head coach Ron Rivera will look to win their first Super Bowl as a head coach. Kubiak is in his first season in Denver, and has won three Super Bowls as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Rivera has never won a Super Bowl as coach, but won a Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears as a player. Both Kubiak and Rivera replaced current Chicago Bears head coach John Fox.
