Superhero movies love to give little winks to the audiences, knowing nods that are seen as well-received fan service. It's why Stan Lee enjoys a cameo in practically every Marvel movie and it's why "Deadpool's" self-aware marketing campaign has been widely praised. So will the original princess of the Amazonians be showing up in 2017's "Wonder Woman?"
Actress Lynda Carter was the first to don the iconic lasso of truth and fans would love to see her back in some form in Patty Jenkins' upcoming "Wonder Woman" film starring Gal Gadot. Unfortunately, some things are not meant to be.
According to The Washington Post, Carter's publicist has squashed any rumors of her appearing in the big budget blockbuster. Though Carter herself fanned the flames a bit in recent months with public comments in support of such a move, it doesn't sound if the right type of role/cameo presented itself.
Perhaps it is for the best. Though Wonder Woman was never the most popular live-action character, Carter's presence may have drawn attention away from Gadot. The Israeli actress will make her DC Extended Universe as Wonder Woman in March's "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and a lot is riding on her performance. Her casting was met with mixed reaction and the jury is still out if she can effectively portray one of the most powerful and popular comic book characters of all-time.
If the first "Wonder Woman" solo film proves to be a hit (and we think it will be), there's no reason why Carter couldn't make an appearance in a future sequel. Leonard Nimoy appeared in both films in the recently rebooted "Star Trek" franchise after all. But for now, ensuring that the first female led superhero blockbuster sticks the landing is WB's NO. 1 priority.
"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" will hit theaters on March 25. "Wonder Woman" will then arrive on June 23, 2017.
