Believe it or not, Eddie Lacy's future with the Green Bay Packers may well hinge on his ability to shed poundage and get himself into some semblance of football shape this offseason. Packers head coach Mike McCarthy insinuated as much - ok, came right out and said as much - during his season-ending press conference, stating that Lacy "cannot play at the weight he did this year." Watching Lacy run out of steam at the end of a long run during the Packers' playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals a couple of weekends ago, it's not hard to see why McCarthy feels that way.
The good news for Green Bay fans is, Lacy seems to have gotten the message and is considering a specific plan for how to go about getting into what could rightly be considered NFL shape. According to a TMZ report, Lacy and his "people" have "been in touch" with the creator of P90X, Tony Horton, and Horton has apparently offered to train Lacy personally.
"The Packers will get him ready for the season," Horton said, per TMZ. "My job will be to get the weight off and help him eat better."
Lacy's "people" have confirmed to TMZ that the two sides "touched base," but no agreement has been struck yet.
Horton told TMZ earlier this month that he was ready and willing to train Lacy and had a "3-month bootcamp style plan" in mind.
P90X is touted as "a completed 90-day home fitness system designed to get you in the best shape of your life." It consists of "12 intense workouts that use resistance and body-weight training , cardio, plyometrics, ab work, martial arts and yoga, along with a nutrition plan, fitness guide and workout calendar," per the product website.
Other NFL players, like former stars Ray Lewis and Brett Favre, reportedly used P90X to stay in shape for the grueling 16-game NFL season.
