Jason Pierre-Paul was able to return to the football field this season despite a terrible July 4th fireworks accident that left his right hand mangled, and the Giants defensive end on Monday decided to share a bloody photo of himself in the hospital following the incident.
Pierre-Paul returned to the Giants this season after missing the first eight games and played with a club on his right hand. He signed a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the Giants in October and will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In six seasons with the Giants, Pierre-Paul has been one of their strongest pass rushers, recording 43 sacks, but he clearly struggled to make the same impact he did prior to the fireworks incident. The Giants' former first round pick recorded 26 combined tackles and one sack and recovered two fumbles this season. Pierre-Paul clearly was still a force in the league in his return but missed tackles he has made in the past due to the lack of being able to grab an opposing player with his right hand.
Pierre-Paul has already had one surgery on his hand this offseason, and his hope is that it will help him return to his dominant form on the field in 2016. It will be interesting to see what attention Pierre-Paul attracts on the offseason market, but multiple teams will likely have interest in him as he has shown he can still make plays in this league.
