Sony's PlayStation 4 early users are reportedly experiencing technical difficulties with the next-gen console.
According to IGN, a console sent on the behalf of the tech site as a prize for a contest winner Arogon (Reddit username), showed up "dead" when it arrived. Instead of a white light to show the console was on, there was a pulsing blue light and no output signal on his television.
Arogon told the tech site he had contacted Sony's PlayStation support and was told to call back on Friday when the console officially launched. The contest winner reportedly called three times, but received the same response to call back on Friday. Sony support told him it would take 5 to 6 days to get a replacement console.
"IGN experienced the same issue, but it happened after the console was already working. It may not have contributed to the issue, but ours stopped working the morning after we updated to version," the tech site reported. "IGN had tried a wide variety of methods to correct the issue: new HDMI cables, new inputs, new TV, putting a disc into the system, connecting it to and from the Internet, and, of course, holding down the power button during boot-up for seven seconds to try to reset things. Nothing worked."
It is not odd for new consoles to experience technical difficulties during immediately after launch. Next-gen consoles tend to release patches and software updates close after their original release date. However, Sony believes the incident is not a widespread issue at this time, but the company has received multiple reports of broken consoles.
"Be assured we are investigating reported PS4 issues. The number is very small compared to shipped, we believe they are isolated incidents," Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment, wrote on his Twitter account.
