On tonight's episode of FYI's hit social experiment reality TV series "Married at First Sight," the three arranged married couples struggle with intimacy with their partners in different ways. In a new sneak peek, the couples are left with an intimacy-building homework assignment from expert and clinical psychologist Dr. Joseph Cilona.
Tres Russell & Vanessa Nelson
Although this couple is the only one this season to have consummated their marriage so far, they still lack emotional intimacy. Nelson, who still struggles with trust issues stemming from her broken relationship with her father, is the first to initiate the assignment with her husband Russell, which is a sign that she is starting to become more willing to open up to him.
"I think we should do that exercise where we say what we like about each other," Nelson tells her husband, and they join hands on the couch.
Neil Bowlus & Samantha Role
Role and Bowlus have different communication styles, which hinders their progress as a couple, but the assignment from Cilona is meant to help them communicate in a more effective way. They sit on the couch facing each other, and Role places her hands on top of Bowlus' so they can touch for an extended period of time while looking into each other's eyes. But Role giggles and makes funny faces the whole time, which upsets her husband.
"It hurts my feelings that we're having physical contact and looking into each other's eyes, but Sam's making light of the situation," Bowlus says in the extended sneak peek. "I need someone who is gonna take me seriously."
David Norton & Ashley Doherty
The couple has moved on after Doherty admitted that she doesn't feel physically attracted to her husband Norton in a previous episode. They attempt Cilona's intimacy-building homework, sitting across from each other on their couch, but Doherty struggles with coming up with three things that she likes about Norton. "I don't want to get angry with my wife, but she's not trying," Norton says.
