The Alabama Crimson Tide will try to dominate again this upcoming season, as Nick Saban did what he always days on National Signing Day, pulling in the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation for the sixth-straight year, according to 24/7 Sports.
After winning the National Championship this past season, Saban went out and recruited two five-star linebackers in Ben Davis and Mack Wilson and a four-star cornerback in Shyheim Carter. The Crimson Tide defense will look to dominate the SEC again this upcoming season, but both LSU and Ole Miss will not be far behind as the Tigers were ranked third and the Rebels sixth, according to 24/7.
The Florida State Seminoles ranked second in the nation in recruiting, but ESPN placed them above Alabama based on the talent head coach Jimbo Fisher was able to bring to Tallahassee. The Seminoles landed the top ranked cornerback in the country in five-star recruit Levonta Taylor. They also nabbed 18 four-star recruits making them the top class, according to ESPN's metric.
Both Florida State and Alabama were clearly the winners on Wednesday's National Signing Day, but two other programs made some big noise even if they didn't fall in the top three on either list. The Michigan Wolverines had arguably the most extravagant signing day of any program in the nation with names like Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Lou Holtz, and Mike Shanahan attending their event.
Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh made a huge splash landing the top recruit in the nation in defensive tackle Rashan Gray, and have since landed 29 commitments, which is more than any other team in 24/7's top ten. Harbaugh is clearly taking the Wolverines program back to the top of college football, and after a successful first season in Ann Arbor many are excited to see what he will produce with his own recruits.
While the Wolverines may have dominated headlines Wednesday, Texas and head coach Charlie Strong made a huge push to return their program to the top of the Big 12. The Longhorns program is ranked in the 11th spot in 24/7 Sports and 10th by ESPN. Strong landed 13 four-star recruits including the second-ranked safety in the nation, Brandon Jones, and the second-ranked outside linebacker in Jeffrey McCulloch.
Ohio State and Georgia also did well, as both programs landed within the top ten in both rankings. Georgia's first year head coach Kirby Smart wooed five-star quarterback Jacob Eason and two other five-star recruits.
The Buckeyes landed the No. 3 overall player in five-star recruit, defensive end Nick Bosa, and head coach Urban Meyer got 16 four-star recruits as well, which will be big after Meyer lost a lot of talent to the NFL Draft. Both the Buckeyes and Wolverines dominated the recruiting class for the Big Ten on Wednesday. It looks like Meyer and Harbaugh will be battling for top recruits for years to come.
