Director Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic") announced his retirement from feature filmmaking three years ago despite an impressively eclectic resume in the medium. While he has remained active since, most notably helming Cinemax's slick TV series "The Knick" with Clive Owen, he has not felt the urge to jump back into Hollywood.
Until now.
Soderbergh is pulling a Brett Favre and coming out of retirement to direct Channing Tatum and Michael Shannon in "Lucky Logan," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Initially, it was reported that Matt Damon would co-star alongside Tatum as he and Soderbergh worked together on the "Oceans" franchise, "Contagion" and "The Informant." However, that report has since been refuted.
"Lucky Logan" was reportedly titled "Hillbilly Heist" at first and will revolve around an "Oceans 11" type of theft. Unfortunately, Soderbergh would not provide any further information about the story or its main players. We do not know who Shannon and Tatum will be playing at this juncture. However, Soderbergh did say that details will be coming soon.
"Rest assured, all will be revealed when I give my exclusive, no-holds-barred interview with Caster magazine," he said. "You think I'm kidding."
Hopefully, eager fans will receive more details on "Lucky Logan" and Soderbergh's potential involvement soon. The director has worked with Tatum before, most recently on 2013's "Side Effects" (his last feature directorial effort) and 2012's "Magic Mike."
